Individual Gifts

Network for Good

Every gift helps transform a life.

While 67% of our financial support comes from public and private grants, we also depend on tax-deductible gifts from caring individuals.   In fiscal year 2008/2009, individuals contributed over $30,000 in cash to support our programs.

  • A gift of $20 provides study materials for one student.
  • A gift of $100 provides training manuals for two volunteer tutors.
  • A gift of $250 enrolls one person in the Augustine Project.
  • A gift of $675 supports one student and one tutor for an entire year.

Please contact our Development Director to discuss your gift and request a Personal Gift and Pledge Form.   If you prefer, you can make your donation securely online through our Facebook account.   Simply click on the Donate Online button at the bottom of this page.

The Leader’s Circle

We especially want to recognize those dedicated donors who make significant, long term commitments to us.

Learning to read and speak English is hard work and takes time.   Many of our students stay with us for several years – sometimes as many as six years.   Your pledge can ensure a student’s long term journey to literacy by supporting the Literacy Council’s annual operating costs.

Become a member of The Leader’s Circle by pledging a minimum of $675 per year for three years.   Each spring you will enjoy a special gathering of the Leader’s Circle members.   Please become a member today!

The Walter and Nancy McConnell Scholarship Fund

Help a student or tutor by supporting the Walter and Nancy McConnell Scholarship Fund.   This fund covers the cost of training materials – $20 for a student’s workbook and $25 for a tutor’s instructional materials – if a Literacy Council student or volunteer cannot make this contribution.

In some cases, our students and tutors are unemployed, retired, or simply unable to make this one-time financial commitment. These students and tutors can ask for a full or partial scholarshipwith no questions asked. We never to turn anyone away because of their inability to contribute toward the cost of learning/teaching materials!

In the spring of 2011, longtime donors Walter and Nancy McConnell matched any gift to the Literacy Council’s scholarship fund made between May 25 and June 30.  The Literacy Council experienced an outpouring of support from individual donors, tutors, and students, raising a total of $3,285, which was matched one-to-one.  This funding will not only meet student and tutor scholarship needs, but it will also purchase supplemental learning materials. Our sincerest thanks go to the McConnells and everyone who participated in this unique opportunity to support Literacy Council tutors and students.

Memorial and Honorary Gifts

The Literacy Council encourages you to consider making a gift to memorialize a loved one or to honor someone’s life and achievements.   Your donation in the name of a relative, friend, or co-worker may be the perfect gift to celebrate a birthday, holiday, anniversary, or special event of those who are blessed with abundance.

We will send a letter of appreciation to the honored individual or family of the deceased and describe how this special gift will be used by the Literacy Council.
